Robots, Rate Speeches, and OBJ Still Trying - Your Week Preview

The robots are not built, the QB is not found, the Fed is not done talking, and OBJ is not retired - it is almost like nobody actually finishes anything anymore.

Full recap

Welcome to Sunday night, where the robots are still concepts, the Fed is still talking, Trump is still tweeting at Beijing, and Odell Beckham Jr. is somehow still employed in the NFL. Pour something strong. The big macro story this week is Fed Chairman Kevin Warsh stepping up to the Jackson Hole podium to explain what he thinks money should cost. Prior Fed chairs used this speech to lay out grand policy frameworks. Warsh will use it to either reassure markets or terrify them, and either way, the S&P will overreact by Thursday. Classic fiat theater with better mountain views. Meanwhile, U.S.-China officials held talks in Beijing ahead of Xi's Washington visit, even as Trump cranked the rhetoric dial to eleven. Nothing says productive diplomacy like threatening your counterpart in the press while shaking hands in private. Both sides are playing chess, except one side keeps flipping the board and calling it a negotiation tactic. Analysts are apparently very excited about a gearbox supplier for humanoid robots. The robots themselves do not yet exist at commercial scale, but the supplier is a buy. This is the financial equivalent of investing in buggy whip factories in 1895 because someone heard a rumor about horseless carriages. Bold move. Gap, Workday, and Autodesk all made after-hours moves too, because someone somewhere always has something to prove at 4:15 PM. On the sports desk: the Steelers traded away Kaleb Johnson and Broderick Jones this week, which is the NFL equivalent of a company firing its best engineers because the CEO still has not figured out the product. Pittsburgh remains competitive enough to lose important games in January, which is a very expensive way to go nowhere. The quarterback hole remains unfilled, like a Series B that never closes. Odell Beckham Jr., age 33, has made the Giants 53-man roster after missing all of 2025. The man is a cockroach in the best possible sense - impossible to keep down, impossible to ignore, somehow still here. The Giants face the Cowboys in Week 1, which means OBJ's comeback arc will be tested immediately against America's most dramatic franchise. Perfect. Cubs vs. Reds is the Sunday Night Baseball feature, and DraftKings wants you to bet $5 to get $200 in bonus bets. A model simulated the game 10,000 times. The house simulated the model and still made money. Somewhere in this chain of incentives, a human being is having fun, and that human is not you. So here is your week: a Fed speech that moves markets, a diplomatic dance with Beijing, robots that exist mostly in pitch decks, and a 33-year-old wide receiver who refuses to read the memo. It is basically just Monday again, but louder.

Highlights

  • Warsh speaks at Jackson Hole - markets will either breathe or panic, no middle ground
  • Steelers traded draft picks like a team that believes vibes count toward wins; the QB hole remains a gaping void
  • OBJ makes the Giants roster at 33 after a lost season - either a comeback story or an expensive nostalgia trip, Cowboys will answer in Week 1
  • Humanoid robot supplier is a buy even though the robots are not real yet - Wall Street really does fund the concept before the product
  • U.S.-China diplomacy proceeds via the time-honored tradition of threatening each other loudly in public while meeting quietly in private
